The Garra Rufa fish, known as “DR FISH” belong to the carp family - a
freshwater fish native to Middle East river basins.
Discovered back in the 19th century in the hot springs of the Kengal
valley, Turkey, the Garra Rufa fish are recognized for their numerous
healing benefits i.e. for eczema and psoriasis and for their
effectiveness in exfoliating and softening of the skin
Garra Rufa fish suck and nibble the dead skin off your body, hands or feet or full body - their suction-cup mouths are perfectly shaped for gently lifting dry skin away, without damaging the healthy new cells underneath - revealing soft, supple and smooth skin for you.
More importantly, fish therapy is a completely painless process. Most people find it pleasurable, a tickling, almost tingling sensation something akin to a light massage.
We can supply Garra Rufa Fish Spas of any size. Below are some examples of our smaller range.

About Garra Rufa Fish
The fish are normally about 2" long, but can vary between 1.5" and 3". Each installation will require between 100 - 150 fish.
Garra Rufa are quite a hardy species with a life expectancy of between 3 - 5 years although as with all fish, life expectancy can be directly linked to water quality and environmental control.
Looking after your fish
We are members of OATA and take the welfare of the fish very seriously - long term care of the system and livestock are important issues to consider when planning a Garra Rufa installation, and Aquamacs offer a 4 weekly full maintenance service and supply full care instructions with each installation to ensure that the system looks stunning at all times.
Once the water temperature and other water conditions are correct,
then the fish can be added.
They do require supplementary feeding and you need to ensure a strict
rotation system with the foot treatments.
Daily maintenance of the spa is also required.
Clients will need to fill out a health questionnaire to comply with
insurance requirements.
